Son of James & Harriet Louisa Barton Moore
in 1860 he was a merchant residing in Carbon Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted in Harrisburg April 21, 1861, as "Addison J. Moore," mustered that day as 1st sergeant of Co. D, 5th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 24, 1861. He then enlisted in Coalmont, Huntingdon County, August 7, 1861,and mustered into federal service at Philadelphia August 17 at the rank of 1st lieutenant with the 28th Pennsylvania Infantry, company as yet unknown. On October 28, 1862, the entire company transferred to the 147th Pennsylvania Infantry, Co. B. He was promoted to captain March 1, 1863, wounded at the battle of New Hope Church, Georgia, May 25, 1864, and honorably discharged with his company October 23, 1864 He moved to Camp Hill to take leadership of the White Hall Orphan School and there married Elizabeth Catherine Kline and fathered Joseph Leslie (b. 01/06/77). Still later, he relocated to Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, where he remained until his death.
