William I. Franks, 69, of Erie, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cordova Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

William was born Nov. 18, 1939, in Shannon, Miss., the son of Ervin E. and Alger Mae King Franks. On Jan. 31, 1959, he married Peggy A. Welbourne at the Kewanee Presbyterian Church.

William served his country in the National Guard. He worked for John Deere in different capacities from 1962, until his retirement in 1984. He was an avid fisherman, loved to travel and enjoyed gardening. His family was most important to him. He was sure to spend every Sunday evening with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; six daughters, Teri, Jane, Vickie, Darla, Debra, Lisa; 15 grandchildren, Dana, Justin, Tasha, Matthew, Patrick, Jordan, Kyle, Desirae, Montana, Taylor, Jay, Tanner, Lauryn, Madison, Carson; six great-grandchildren, Collin, Bryce, Allison, Wyatt, Connor, Kaylee; one brother, David Franks, Mountain Home, Ark.; four sisters, Linda Nache, Rock Island, Dorothy Lopez, Moline, and Jackie Lopez and Sheila Rogers, both of Springfield, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by both parents and six siblings.
