Gilbert Simmons, a Native of New York, Buried at Corvallis
Gilbert Simmons died at Corvallis, Jan. 26. He went to the Bitter Root valley in 1866 and settled on Willow Creek. At 16 he crossed the plains and mined in California, Idaho, and Montana, when a shovel was worth $30 and a sack of flour $50. He leaves five boys, three girls, the youngest six months old, and a widow.
Mr. Simmons was a man of exemplary habits and a valued citizen. At the time of his death he was president of the Buena Vista Mining company. He was born in Delaware county, New York, Oct. 10, 1841.
