Bennie Phillips

Bennie Phillips, 90, passed away August 30, 2013, at his daughter's home in Magnolia, Texas surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1922 in San Augustine, Texas and grew up in the Houston Heights where he attended Hamilton and Reagan High School. Bennie honorably served in the US Air Force World War II.
He retired from Texas Pipe and Bending and was a member of Local 211 for 50 years. Bennie was also a member of Garden Oaks Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Master Mason and Yale Street Baptist Church.
Bennie had a deep love for family, fast pitch softball, fishing and was a huge jokester. He played fast pitch softball for Sam's Place as catcher where he was known for his quickness at the plate. He was a great favorite with his teammates, the number one ribber and always kept his mates on edge with his jibbers. After his retirement he moved to his lake home on Toledo Bend so he could fish every day.

He is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, first wife, Mildred Baton Phillips and his second wife Marion Durden Phillips.

He leaves cherished memories for his daughter, Candy Phillips Brigance and husband Kerry, son Gary Phillips Sr. and wife Debra, granddaughter Ginger Brigance Bailey and husband Anthony, granddaughter Misty Sissell and grandson Gary Phillips Jr. and wife Dawn, great-grandchildren Weston and Coyelyn Bailey and Abigail and Gary Phillips III. Also, "Uncle Bennie" to Malcolm and Cheryl Busby, who was like their father figure.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, September 3rd at Addison Funeral Home. The service of remembrance will be at 1 PM Wednesday, September 4th at Addison Funeral Home with interment to follow in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
