Robert Edward Alexander, son of Robert J. and Elizabeth Alexander, was born near Hazelwood in Morgan County, March 13th, 1861 and finished his life's journey on earth in the early evening of June 11, 1916, aged 55 years 2 months and 28 days. He was the fourth child in a family of six children. In 1890, he converted and joined the Friends church at Hadley retaining his membership until his death. On April 21, 1892, he was united in marrige to Annie E. Stadler, with whom he lived in happy, mutual, helpfulness to the close of life. Their home life was blessed with the coming of three daughters, Valentine, Mabel, and Lucille. Ed Alexander, as he was familiarly known was a man of kindly traits, jovial, frank and always optimistic, ever interested in the welfare of his family, contributing to the welfare of his family, contributing to their comfort and happiness to the extent of his ability. He was interested in community and church life, striving in advance the same as opportunity was afforded. His physical forces having been somewhat weakened by long continued poor health, when pneumonia, with some complications, attacked him, he had not power of resistance sufficient to successfully combat the attack, but after ten days of suffering, succumbed to the disease. During the periods of consciousness in his illness, his thought was on the home above, speaking of going home, even making an effort to sing "I'm going home," thus leaving a comforting evidence that he has entered that eternal rest for which he longed. The widow and daughters remain to cherish precious memories of a kind and loving husband and father. The aged mother, two sisters and one brother still live to mourn the loss of a dutiful son and loyal brother.
