James 'Jim" A. Dinsmoor, 83, of 1511 East Maxwell Lane, Bloomington, Ind., died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.
He was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Woburn, Mass., the son of Daniel S. and Jean (Masson) Dinsmoor. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1943 and received his Master's and PhD degrees from Columbia University in New York City. He lived in Indiana for 53 years and was a professor at Indiana University for 34 years. He retired in 1986.
He was active in politics and maintained a keen interest in international affairs. An avid reader, he also was a prolific author and kept in close contact with his former classmates, colleagues, and students.
Survivors include his wife, Kay (Sawyer) Dinsmoor [1931-2009] of Bloomington, Ind.; two sons; a daughter; and four grandchildren. Also surviving him are several nephews, nieces and cousins.
A private graveside service was held at the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.
