Mrs. Sadie W. Tawes, 89, died Sunday November 31st in the Tawes Nursing Home following a lingering illness.
She was born in Westover, daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Gibbons Webb. Most of her life had been spent here in Crisfield where for many years she was a nurse at McCready Memorial Hospital, having retired some time ago. Her husband, I. George Tawes, died in 1942.
She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Josephine De Wyn Gaert, Elberon, N.J., and Mrs. Marian Nelson, Crisfield. A son, City Councilman Elwath Tawes and the following stepchildren: Mrs. Martha Justice, Crisfield, Creston Tawes, Charleston, S. C., and Reginald Tawes, Younges Island, S. C. Ten grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren survive, also.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. from Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Cecil Smart, pastor of the Crisfield Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Tawes was a member, officiated. Interment was in the family plot in Crisfield Cemetery.
A memorial service was held Monday December 1 at 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home by the Chesapeake Chapter No. 28, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Tawes was a member of the Order for many years.
