HARTFORD CITY – Ruby Fay Townsend, 90, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Hartford City on May 4, 1923 to the late Farrell Reed and the late Bertha Blanche (Kirkwood) Reed. Ruby married Vernon Lawrence "Deacon" Townsend on January 18, 1947 at the First Christian Church Parsonage. He precedes her in death on September 1, 2000. She formerly worked for Harry Schumacher at Restaurant and also worked at Hoover Needler Furniture Store for many years. Ruby was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hartford City. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Diana S. Townsend of Hartford City; son, Dennis R. (wife, Denice) Townsend of Logansport; son-in-law, Dennis Pierce of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Travis J. (wife, Heather) Monroe; Troy A. (wife, Carrie) Monroe; Amber S. Fraze, Kristi D. (husband, Casey) Thigpen, Steven L. Pierce, Christopher L. (wife, Heidi) Pierce, Eric V. Pierce, Melinda L. Townsend, Joshua L. (wife, Lavinia) Gibson, Matthew D. (wife, Lindsay) Gibson, Cattie I. (husband, Jeremiah) Jarrell; great-grandchildren, Mariah S. Lane, Harrison G. Thigpen, Abraham T. Thigpen, Victor L. Thigpen, Brienna F. Pierce, Preston R. Strait, Kaitlyn E. Strait, Braxton L. Strait, Taylor Monroe, Tinsley Monroe, Savanna Monroe, Zane Fraze, Conner Gibson, Olivia Gibson, Kyra Kumler, Deacon Gibson, Ella Gibson, Layla Jarrell, Josiah Jarrell; great-great granddaughter, Gracie Townsend Strait; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Jayne A. Pierce, sister, Vera Jean Johnson and brother, Virgil Glenn Reed. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City, IN. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Muncie, IN. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 & 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 and from 9 to 11 a.m. September 5, 2013 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
