Howard C. Ricker, 89, longtime resident of Springvale, died February 1, 2004 at the Newton Center in Sanford.

He was born August 27, 1914 in Springvale, a son of Clifton and Almeida (Carroll) Ricker. He graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, stationed in Bar Harbor. Mr. Ricker lived in Springvale over 50 years. He was employed as a welder for 32 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1972. Mr. Ricker enjoyed fishing and held membership with the Knights of Pythias, the Elks and Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his sons, Frank Ricker of Springvale and William Johnson of Florida. His daughter, Arlene Stackpole of Sanford. 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also,several nieces and nephews. A brother, Donald Ricker of Kittery and three sisters, Margaret Gerrish of Kittery; Gladys Ludford of No. Carolina; and Evelyn Bonner of Virginia.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elks National Foundation, C/O Sanford Elks Lodge, P.O. Box 624, Sanford, ME 04073.
