A memorial service for Peter R. Ratajczak will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Ind. Peter, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away in his home on Monday, Aug. 30. He was born on July 30, 1920, to Frank and Caroline Ratajczak, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Louis, Arthur and Benjamin; a sister Helen Zawierucha; and by a son-in-law, Dan Wegenke.
A World War II veteran, Peter maintained active membership with American Legion Post 357, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9820 and Disabled American Veterans Indiana Chapter 39. After more than 20 years of employment, he retired from the City of South Bend, Department of Streets and Sanitation, in 1985.
Peter was united in matrimony to Christine Toth on May 2, 1942, and was blessed with two children, Terri Anderson of South Bend and Mark (Rose King) Ratajczak of Osceola, Ind.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christine; both children, Terri and Mark; grandsons, Gregg Wegenke of South Bend and Jeff Wegenke of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Patricia Miller of South Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Christine (Toth); a daughter, Terri Anderson of South Bend; a son, Mark of Osceola; and a sister, Patricia Miller of South Bend. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. in Cobb Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
