A World War II veteran, Peter maintained active membership with American Legion Post 357, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9820 and Disabled American Veterans Indiana Chapter 39. After more than 20 years of employment, he retired from the City of South Bend, Department of Streets and Sanitation, in 1985.
Peter was united in matrimony to Christine Toth on May 2, 1942, and was blessed with two children, Terri Anderson of South Bend and Mark (Rose King) Ratajczak of Osceola, Ind.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christine; both children, Terri and Mark; grandsons, Gregg Wegenke of South Bend and Jeff Wegenke of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister, Patricia Miller of South Bend.

Peter R. Ratajczak, 79, of South Magnolia Street, died Monday in his home of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Christine (Toth); a daughter, Terri Anderson of South Bend; a son, Mark of Osceola; and a sister, Patricia Miller of South Bend. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. in Cobb Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.
