Reverend Isiah "Ike" Williams, Sr., age 65, died at Heartland in Columbia, South Carolina on Friday, August 23, 2013 after an extended illness. Born December 04, 1947, Ike was the seventh child of Phillis McRant Williams and Jackson Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Paul; and sister, Frances Williams Hook.
He was educated in the Richland County School District One; graduating from C.A. Johnson High School in 1966. He received an Associate Degree in Business from Columbia Commercial College in 1971 and a Bachelors of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of South Carolina in 1980.
Reverend Williams was ordained as a minister by the Gethsemane Baptist Association in 1975. In 1976, he was ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).
He faithfully pastored Crossroads, Wateree, Elisha, Mount Pisgah and Hopewell A.M.E. Churches. He was associated with Reid Chapel, Cedar Creek, Adam Northeast and Rock Hill A.M.E. Churches.
In 1991, he followed his passion and calling and established Kerygma Christian Center. He supported and nurtured Kerygma for five years before returning to the A.M.E. Church.
Ike was an entrepreneur. He was owner and CEO of Personalized Memorial Monuments. He was caring and trusting and worked very hard to please customers. He never met a stranger and treated everyone with dignity and respect.
He loved life, had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He loved everyone - young and old. He especially liked interfacing with the youth. He coached Little League Baseball at Greenview Park for eight years, mentoring and teaching baseball and life skills. He sought the advice, and friendship of older people, and often went out of way to ensure their rights were not infringed upon.
He is survived by his wife of 47years, Belinda Johnson Williams; a son, Isiah (Shannon) Williams, Jr. of Hickory, North Carolina; a daughter, Leslie Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers: Johnnie (Shirley) McRant of Hopkins, South Carolina, Robert L. (Doreatha) Williams and Joseph D. Williams; sisters, Sydnell Edmond and Phillistine Williams; mother-in-law, Beatrice Johnson; two grandchildren, Autumn and Errington Williams; an aunt, Roxanna Davis; twenty-two nieces; six nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
