Obituary

LORAIN - Mother Eloise Blackman, nee Jackson, 90, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of Lorain.

She was born February 4, 1923 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was a graduate of Tuscaloosa Training School. In 1946 she graduated from cosmetology school and later moved to Lorain OH in 1952.

She was a Mother of Friendship Baptist Church of Lorain where she served in many capacities which included senior choir director, president and lead singer. She also served as the president of the missionary auxiliary, Sunday school teacher, pastor's aide auxiliary, and chairperson for several special church fundraisers and events. She was a part of the Sandusky Sub-District Baptist Union, Black River Lodge Elks, a Cub Scout #5 den mother, previous Worthy Matron of Judea Chapter #1 O.E.S, and a member of the NAACP-Lorain Branch. She also worked for 8 years in the Avon Ford Plant cafeteria, was a licensed beautician for over 44 years, loved cooking, singing, traveling, growing flowers, and was an avid sports fan.

She will be truly missed by her eight children, Nettie (Mitchell) Rollison-Thomas of Lorain, Larry (Anne) Blackman of Las Vegas NV, Cheryl Lynn Harris of Evanston IL , Timothy James Blackman, Julian Keith Blackman, Judy ( James) Adkisson, all of Lorain, and James (Donna) Martin of Wheeling WV; 8 grandchildren, Eric Rollison, Anthony (Chrystal) Rollison, Tamara Rollison-Newton, Ericka S. Blackman, Lawrence (Alsena) Blackman, Lekicia Hughes-Blackman-Dower, Julius (Jennifer) Blackman Jr., Jamaal Blackman; 23 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; godson Daryl Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Epps Sr., second husband, James Blackman; sons, Floyd Epps Jr., Julius Kevin Blackman Sr. and Terry Laster; special friend, Odell Guyton; parents, Earnest Jackson Sr. and Lettie (nee Sheldon) Jackson; 3 brothers, Earnest Jr., John and Robert Jackson; 3 sisters, Earlene Massgill, Earnestine Paige, and Anna Kate Brown; and grandson, Vincent Rollison.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 2, 2013 from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church 2160 Reeves Ave. Burial will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 11a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Pastor John R. Jackson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in her memory to the Missionary Auxiliary or other church ministries at Friendship Baptist Church.
