George T. "Papa" Cary, 83, of Middleton, died September 9, 1994, in the Caldwell hospital of natural causes. The family will meet friends at the Dakan Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 1994. At "Papa's" request no service will be held. "Papa" was born at Hayes Center, Nebraska, June 19, 1911, son of Albert and Louisa Cary. He had three brothers and four sisters. From the very beginning "Papa" enjoyed life to the very fullest. He lived in many different states and worked in many different occupations. He was a sheepherder, cattle wrangler, truck driver, logger and mechanic. During the Depression he worked in one of the "Three C's" camps that President Roosevelt had established. He helped in the construction of Anderson Ranch Dam. He worked in the shipyards in Portland and later worked as a logger and truck driver in Oregon. It was in Oregon that he met his wife Ida. At this time he was raising two children on his own but the deep love he felt for "Mama" give him the strength to take on the responsibility of four more children. They were married May 28, 1955. When "Papa" and "Mama" moved to Idaho, he worked as a mechanic and eventually opened his own repair shop in Middleton. After his retirement he lived in Featherville for a few years taking care of cattle. After he moved back to Middleton he hauled beets for several local farmers. "Papa" loved the 4-F's of life - Family, Friends, Fun and Fishing. Some of his happiest times were spent with "Mama" on the lake, in their boat "Apache," sitting around the campfire talking about the "big one that got away," working in his yard, "Puttering" around in his garage and shooting darts with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Ida; one brother, Everett Cary; two sisters, Nina Duggan and Ruth Lalley; five sons, Wayne Cary and wife Judy, DWayne Cary and wife Shirley, Maynard Smith and wife Arlene, Jim Smith and wife Merle, and Gary Smith; four daughters, Dona (Cary) Terwilliger and husband Bill , Laura (Cary) Lewis, Patricia (Smith) Klauser and husband Dennis, Darla Jo (Cary) Cannon and husband K.C.; 31 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and hundreds of wonderful friends.
