SAMANTHA ELIZABETH YOUNG
Born: June 22, 1988
Died: July 25, 2013

Samantha Elizabeth Young, "Sammie Bee", died suddenly on the morning of Thursday, July 25th in Santa Rosa, California. Her family and her loving friends surrounded her both physically and spiritually as she made her final journey through life. She will be loved, cherished and remembered forever.

A Celebration of Life will take place in Davis at 3pm on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Rainbow City Playground in Community Park. Wiscombe Funeral Home in Davis is handling arrangements.

Sammie was born in Woodland, California on June 22, 1988. She grew up and attended schools in Davis and spent many of her summers in Oklahoma. [She] graduated from King High School, and continued on at Sacramento City College. While pursuing her education, she worked at Woodstock's Pizza in Davis, as well as at Armadillo Records. In the past year, she had begun her studies at the California Art Institute in San Francisco. At the time of her death, she was an apprentice tattoo artist for a respected studio in Sonoma County.

Sammie lived a multi-faceted, adventurous life. Her vibrant spirit was contagious. She loved to compose songs and she played her guitar and sang with the depth of an emotion uncommon to one so young. She loved to be with her friends, and to express herself artistically. She's left a legacy of her art on paper, wood, walls, underpasses and god only knows where else.

Sammie's love for her family and friends was surpassed only by her love for her dog, Calliope, who she rescued at the tender age of 6 weeks and her longtime partner, Michael Baxter. In addition to Calliope and Michael, Sammie is survived by her parents, Lora Schroeder, Phil Schroeder, Don Hughes, Ginger Shepherd and Cathie O'Connor. She leaves her brothers Jacob, Scot, Jakob, Eric and Patrick; her sisters Madison, Delaney, Alison and Emily; her Gammie Loretta; her Grampa Mike and his wife Julie; Grandma Karen and her family; and her step-grandparents Ed and Mary Schroeder. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as by the many friends who stood by her side time and time again.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an educational fund for Samantha's siblings, or to the drug treatment program being chosen by her family, the details of which will be available at the celebration.
