Funeral services for Russell Eugene Daniel, 71, of Monticello, were held Wednesday at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with burial in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. The Rev. Grady T. Fuller officiated.

He died August 4 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mr. Daniel was born March 10, 1932 to the late Z.O. and Ruth Dowdy Daniel in Cook County. He had been a resident of Monticello since 1971. He retired from Pepsico, formerly Frito Lay, with 15 years of service. A former member of the Monticello Jaycees and the Decatur Moose Lodge, he was a U.S. Army Veteran that served in the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star awards.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Daniel, daughter, Angelia Daniel of Lake Oconee; son, Russell E. Daniel, Jr. of Oxford; four grandchildren; sister, Lila Canglin of Stone Mountain; brothers, J.D. Daniel of Blairsville, Jack Daniel of Covington and Jerry Daniel of Lithonia.

Pallbearers were David Morri-son, Larry Morrison, Gene Daniel, Drew Stephens, Jerry Kiplinger and Ronnie Armistead.
