Emily E. Heard, 70, died during the early morning hours of Thursday, August 22, 2013.

Emily Enora Goss was born on November 30, 1942 to Mann Goss and Mable Brewer Goss in Glenn, GA. She received Christ into her life at an early age while living in Roanoke, AL. At the age of sixteen she moved to Chattanooga, TN, to live with her aunt, Salimma Odums, where she attended Second District School and Howard High School. Emily joined Second Missionary Baptist Church where her aunt was a member, shortly after arriving in Chattanooga, TN, at the age of 17.

While at Second Baptist she served faithfully for many years on the Senior Usher Board, worked in the Children's Church and was a member of Club 11. On December 16, 1961 she married Howard Heard, Jr. and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. To their union five children were born: Delbert LeBron, Melbert LeDon, Edward Austin, Howard Ervin and Emily Denese Heard Blackmon.

Sister Heard was self-employed as a beautician for 40 plus years at the former Hollywood Beauty Salon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Sister Heard is survived by her husband, Howard Heard; her five children; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sisters, Cenia Clark; one aunt, Emma Sue Reese; a host of nieces, nephews; a cherished friend, Christine Ross. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children, for she will be forever loved and never forgotten.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at noon at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Paul A. McDaniel officiating.

Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.
