He was a 1942 graduate of Francis High School in Kentucky. Jessie served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a third class specialist gunner and was also a pilot. He worked at Davis Child for 25 years as an auto body technician. He retired from Nelson Body Shop.
On March 3, 1945, Jessie married Wanda Lee Field in Hutchinson, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include: sons, Gary Nichols and wife Kathy, Larry Nichols, all of Hutchinson, Kan.; grandsons, Justin Nichols of Blue Springs, Mo., Troy Nichols of Hutchinson, Kan.; brother, Ollie Gene Nichols and wife Phyllis of Providence, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Linton Nichols; and sister, Dean Hammonds.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
