GALVESTON — Jesse Perry, a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather was received by the Lord Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the age of 90. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family. He was a native of Galveston, retiring from UTMB. Ever confident in the love of Christ, he attended Sacred Heart Church.

He is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Guadalupe Perry; and son-in-law, Jerry Mashburn.

He is survived by five children: Jesse Perry, Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Galveston; Gene Perry and wife, Marina, of Texas City; Elizabeth (Susie) Mashburn of Lufkin; Patricia (Patsy) Songy and husband, Joseph, of League City; and Sandra Janicek and husband, Christopher, of Needville. He is survived by fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Josephine Martinez, of La Marque, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. His devoted canine friend, Rascal, provided years of comfort and companionship.

He was a World War II veteran, serving overseas in the Army Air Corps. After the war he became a carpenter, appreciated for his craftsmanship. In his younger years he worked on the wharves, boxed and played baseball. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of baseball and softball by coaching over 20 years. He spent countless hours fishing and gardening. He loved following baseball and any sport featuring his child or grandchild. He was their number one fan, finding pleasure in cheering them on.

The beautiful memories he shared will remain in our hearts. The values he conveyed to his family will be forever appreciated. He was a caring and giving person that will be deeply missed.

His family will receive visitors beginning at 11:00 am, Monday, April 1st, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 pm, Monday at the church with Father John Taosan, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

Pallbearers will be Steven Perry, Kyle Perry, Boyd Mallia, Michael Cridland, Mark Cridland, John Pipkins and Christopher Hein.

To quote our beloved father and friend, "That's about it!"
