The funeral service for Helen Sauer, 79, Vergas, Minnesota will be held on Monday, May 25, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas with Reverend Michael Wolters officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, near Detroit Lakes, MN. She died on Wednesday, May 20, 1998 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Helen Sonnenberg was born the daughter of Herman and Amalia "Molly" Sonnenberg on May 31, 1918 near Vergas, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas. She was raised and attended school near Vergas. She was united in marriage to Harry Sauer on October 29, 1939 in Pelican Rapids, MN. They farmed north of Vergas on the Sauer homestead for many years. He died on June 15, 1994. Helen was active in the St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and fishing.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Donley) Fingalson of Knoxville, TN, a son, Russell (Sharon) of Sauk Centre, MN, a brother, Lavern, a sister, Emma Benke, both of Vergas, two sisters-in-law, Helen Sonnenberg of Vergas and Leone Stolz of Detroit Lakes, MN. And five grandchildren.
