She was born to David Elmer and Lura Zoe Fish Johnson on Sept. 26, 1899, in Arga, Kansas, and moved to the Portland area as a youngster.
She attended Stephens Grade School and Washington and Jefferson high schools. She attended the University of Oregon and earned her bachelor's degree at Taylor University in Indiana in 1931.
Miss Johnson had been dean of students at the Pacific Bible College in California and also taught for the Hudson School District. She then taught for the West Covina, Calif., School District for about 13 years until she retired and moved back to the Portland area in 1968.
A funeral for Verena Viola Johnson, a Southeast Portland resident, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ross Hollywood Chapel. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
