JUNIUS EDGAR TUCKER TO BE BURIED TODAY

Former Inventor Was Pressman In City In 1890s

Services for Junius Edgar Tucker, pressman, inventor and watchmaker, will be held at 11 this morning at Thompson Bros. Mortuary with the Rev. William A. Dimmick officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood.

Mr. Tucker died at 4:30 yesterday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ida Bryan, and his nephew, W. P. Rankin, of 4561 Poplar. He was 86.

As a young man Mr. Tucker worked in Memphis for Willis & Crumpton, Printers, around 1890 as a pressman. About that time he invented and patented the Tucker Sheet Feeder, which fed paper automatically to the presses.

He later worked as a mechanic for the Richardson Scale Co. in the East and invented a number of devices for that firm. He returned to Memphis about 1947 and worked as a watchmaker, until his illness. He was born at LaGrange, Tenn.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Julia A. Tucker; his daughter, Mrs. Claude Thomason, and his son, George W. Tucker, all of Memphis."

Researched by our cousin--hrgrave15 who originally submitted this to P&J Hargrave Family on 9 Jul 2012, on ancestry.com. Thank you so much. This is a delightful obituary of all of the things he did in his life!

Family please help to contribute for a headstone for him! Thank you very much for taking their burial plot photograph, Patrick! You went way beyond most photographers--you researched our family at this cemetey and provided a whole list with plot numbers, most without headstones. Then you circled the plot on the picture for us to understand the placment and the sad predicament!
