On July 26, 2013, Eddie "Pop" Matthews, a World War II Army Veteran, left his earthly home and departed to his last duty station, his Eternal Heavenly home.
Eddie, 91, was born to the late Andrew and Hattie Matthews on August 2, 1922, in El Dorado, Arkansas. After the war, Eddie, became a well known carpenter, building homes in Galveston County.
Eddie is survived by his 3 children; Charles Matthews (Mary) of Texas City, Tx; Ray Matthews (Sherry) of Milwaukee, WI; and Lisa Renee Kendrick of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2013, at Mainland Funeral Home, 2711 Texas Ave., La Marque, Tx 77568, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 10 am, at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church, 6333 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Tx 77563 with Pastor William L. Randall, Jr., Officiating. Interment: Grace Memorial Cemetery, Hitchcock, Tx.
