Obituary for Joe Walden
OBITUARY NOTICE

Joe Walden Jr.

Joe Walden Jr., age 91, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 1:57 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, KY.

Joe was born November 30, 1921 to Joe Sr. and Della Reed Walden in Henderson County. He met and married his wife Pearl Farley in 1942. They lived and made their home on the Walden family farm in Hebbardsville. They were the parents of four children and lost their youngest child Rita Ann at age 2. In his early 20s he and his father operated a coal mine in Hebbardsville. He was in a mining accident and fell into a mine shaft several feet and broke his back. Bucket Pitt, a neighbor, was the person that went into the shaft to hoist him above ground. He always remembers Maynard Glunt coming to transport him in the ambulance from the mine. He often spoke of this being Maynard's first ambulance run. He was in a body cast for six months. He was determined not to let his injury keep him from working. He worked as a line operator for 32 years at Whirlpool Corporation and retired in 1983. He also raised tobacco and cattle on the family farm and at age 70 still had over 300 head of cattle. He lost a barn on Eutopia Road to arson in 1995 and never quite recovered from that loss. He was a member for over 70 years at Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was currently a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Rita Ann.
