In "The Theatre," Volume 18, Meyer Bros. & Company, 1913, O'Neil is said to have been born in Kildare, County Kildare, Ireland and shortly after the family immigrated to Buffalo, NY.

Stage and Screen actress who got her big break in the "Peg O' My Heart" production in Chicago. She went on to success on Broadway, London, and Paris. Best known for her performance in "Paddy, the Next Best Thing," at the Savoy Theater in London. She was the inspiration for the song "Sweet Peggy O'Neil" (1921). (See sheet music photo.)

She also appeared in 23 shorts or feature length films between 1913 and 1938. She also played an unlisted armor double for Ingrid Bergman in the 1948 film version of "Joan of Arc."

Peggy O'Neil was the first person to be interviewed on television appearing on an experimental Baird Televisor at the Ideal Home Exhibition in Southampton in April 1930.
