Elbert Pressley Haywood, 79, of 198 Oakhills Drive, Troy, North Carolina died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.
Mr. Haywood was born October 27, 1931 in Montgomery County, the son of Daniel Pressley Haywood and Addie Greene Haywood. He was a member of Wadeville Baptist Church and a self-employed general contractor. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Iris Lee Parnell Haywood of the home; two sons: Tony Filmore Haywood of Rolesville and Jeffrey Pressley Haywood of Asheboro; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy and other time at the home. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Wadeville Baptist Church, 144 Shoe Factory Road, Mt. Gilead with Rev. Jim Hunsucker officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be in the church cemetery.
