Born Aug. 2, 1936, in Beaver Falls, Pa., he was the son of the late Howard G. Herron and the late Beth Gruber. He was a purchasing manager for Matthews Conveyer. He was a member of First Christian Church, the VFW and the Boyle County Gun Club. He was a hunter, fisherman, pilot and a Kentucky Colonel. He also was a captain of the Volunteer Fire Department in Wurtemburg, Perry Township, Pa.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Weimer Herron; a son, David Herron; two grandchildren, Michael Thomas (Rebecca) Herron and Dewayne (Rebecca) Hardwick; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Alyssa; a sister, Arlene H. Trimble of Ellwood City, Pa.; nieces, Wendy Syler, Jeanne (Jim) Rogers and Any (Steve) Hessler, all of Ellwood City, Pa.; and great-nieces and -nephews Erica, Lacy, Tyler, Clay and Cara.
He was preceded in death by nephews, Richard and Patrick Trimble; a brother-in-law, Richard Trimble; and brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Charles Nippert.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Jerry Shepard will officiate.
Pallbearers will be the American Legion Saufley Post No. 46. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Herron, Dewayne Hardwick, Leland Hurley, Charlie Haven, Jamie Thompson and Julian Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
The family suggests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
