Paula "Polly" McDonnell Powell, 73, passed away August 23, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.
Paula was born October 20, 1939 in Des Moines to Joseph and Beatrice McDonnell. She attended St. Anthony's grade school, graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1956 and received her medical technology degree in 1960 from Ottumwa Heights College. She retired in 1990 from working as a Medical Technologist at the Veterans Hospital. She was a very giving person of her time and talents. She will be greatly missed.
Paula is survived by her son, Tony (Arlita Riley) Powell of College Park, GA; grandchildren, Henry Heben, Ariel and Amy Powell of Anchorage and Wasilla, AK, Kim Andrew (Jennifer Wilson) Powell of Lexington Park, MD and Gareth Rylie-Eyers of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Nolan Powell; brother, Dr. Dennis (Dr. Jean Murrin) McDonnell; sister, Lynne (Jonathan) Braley and Mary Frances (Ron) Booth; and eleven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Monsignor Joseph McDonnell.
