Bertha Andresen Sandvoss was born as Borghild Hulda Konstanse Andresen, but used the name "Bertha" after immigrating to the United States. On Jan. 13, 1905, she married Albert Herman Sandvoss, born on Oct. 22, 1883, in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States, but her husband disappeared sometime between 1927 and 1930. Other children of Bertha and Albert are: Albert Herman Sandvoss (1907-1908), Ruth Mathilde Wilhelmina Sandvoss Micozzi (1910-2000), Edith Sandvoss Rubino (1914-1987), Viola Eleanor Sandvoss Haughie (1916-1987), Doris Sandvoss Clark Gutekunst (1925-living), and Norma L. Sandvoss Santoro (1927-1997).
