Ralph Eugene Cox, age 86, of Mattoon passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Sunday August 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Carle Foundation Hospital.

Funeral Services honoring his life will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, IL with Brad Brown officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Schilling Funeral Home.

Ralph was born on December 20, 1926 in Greenup, IL the son of William Alex and Anna Golda (Byrnes) Cox. He married Margaret Easton on July 9, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2012.

Survivors include four daughters, Karen Bateman and husband Ron of Mattoon, IL; Carol Howard and husband Jack of Mattoon, IL; Anita Kaufman and husband Bernie of Mattoon, IL and Sandra Winter of Keaau, HI; eight grandchildren, Amy Brigham of Lerna, IL, Ron (Blythe) Bateman Jr. of Mattoon, IL, Michelle (Bob) Fuller of Humboldt, IL, Chris Lanphier of Charleston, IL, Coartney (Mike) Cobble of Virginia Beach, VA, Jamie (Mike) Ueleke of Mattoon, IL, Myles Kaufman (fiancé, Sydney Shanks) of Mattoon, IL and Roger Winter of Keaau, HI; ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Cox, Jack Cox and Jimmie Cox. Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Cox; daughter, Connie Cox; son, Roger Cox; parents; three sisters, Naomi Ballinger, Lillie Mae Wiseman and Pauline Browning; three brothers, Herman Winfred Cox, Kenneth Cox and William Cox.

Ralph served honorably in the United States Army at Leyte Islands in the Pacific and Kyoto, Japan during WWII. Ralph retired from Schrock Mfg. Co. as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Ralph enjoyed camping, being out in nature and enjoying the animals. He was a Cardinals and Cubs fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his dog Shino
