Barbara Etta Whitmire Deaton, 66, widow of Willie Deaton Jr., of 221 E. Main Street, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Deaton was born in Union on Nov. 25, 1936, a daughter of the late Johnny Whitmire and Bertha Nichols Whitmire Jolly. She attended Union High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Bonnie D. Thompson of Spartanburg, April D. Kirby and her husband Michael; Debbie D. Harmon and Holly D. Jones, all of Union; two sons, Timmy Wayne Deaton of Union and Jason Simeon Deaton and wife, Jolly, of Spartanburg; a brother, George Robert (Bobby) Whitmire of Union; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Smith. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Stevie Sinclair, Harold Dean Sinclair, Jr., Chad Sherbet, Johnny Whitmire, Brian Brackins, Richard Prince Jr. and Christopher L. Sanders.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of her daughter, April and Michael Kirby, 112 Pineland Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
