Rayford Bell, 71, of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, died suddenly on Monday, July 23, 2001, while aboard an aircraft bound for Houston, Texas, where he was facing possible heart surgery.
He was born January 27, 1930, at Gilbert [Louisiana], to the union of Walter and Laura Edwards Bell.
Bell was a retired United States Airborne Ranger with 23 years of service, including two tours of duty in Korea. After retiring from the military in the early 1970's, Bell and his family lived in Jena [Louisiana] for several years where he served as a patrolman with the Jena Police Department.
He was a member of Oswichee Baptist Church in Ft. Mitchell, Ala.
Services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 26, in Oswichee Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Crooks Bell of Ft. Mitchell, Ala.; one daughter, Sherry Melton of Las Vegas, Nv.; three sons, Kenneth Bell and Jim Bell, both of Columbus, Ga. and Paul Bell of Houston, Texas; one sister, Sadie Bell Poole of Jena; and two brothers, O.G. Bell and Beverly Bell, both of Jena.
