Harold served as a Staff Sergeant and Turret-Gunner on a B-25 Mitchell Medium Bomber in the 447th Bomber Squadron, 321st Bomber Group, 57th Bombardment Wing, 12th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force duirng World War II.

He resided at Whalen Road, Penfield, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 28, 1942 at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York. He was noted as being employed in printing and publishing and also as Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" during a Bombing Mission on the Isoletta Dam, Italy. His plane received a direct flak hit to the right wing, causing the gas tank to explode and the right wing to blow off along with pieces of the tail, the rest of the plane was engulfed in flames and crashed to the ground. 4 Crew members were Killed, including S/Sgt. Schrader, 3 others managed to bail out, but were captured as German Prisoners Of War, and were eventually freed.
