Born to James and Rebecca Clark Montgomery. She married David Elder 7 Nov 1825 in Tennessee. She had 3 children, Claybourne Montgomery, Martha Jane (born 1830 died 1833), James Porter (born 1826 - 1829). Claybourne was the only one to live to adulthood (born 1827 died 1912).

David Elder died 26 May 1830 and Martha re-married Alfred Bell Sept. 8, 1832.
