"She was born March 3, 1902 in Mississippi.
Died December 26, 1982 and she is buried in Vermilion, Alberta Canada. Her middle name is Eleanor."

Buried: Vermilion Public Cemetery, Vermilion Alberta.

She was the daughter of Israel Corydon Hemphill and Mattie May (Halloway) Hemphill. Ivy had many stories of growing up in Mississippi.

Married: John Arnold and moved to Albert Canada.
Married `5 Feb 1920 in Hattiesburg, Miss., and they moved to Alberta that same year.

"John was 17 years older than her, he had a homestead established in Alberta. The property remains in the family and is still farmed by members of the family. I remember hearing that 3 of her sisters were born after she left home. She was the oldest of the family and I think there were 11 children in the family."

"The homestead where Ivy came to live is still in our family, over 100 years have passed since her husband first came here to claim it, and that is really what got me thinking about Ivy and how hard it must have been to come here and leave everything she knew behind. We still call the place where she lived the "homeplace". It was where my Dad was born. the house is gone, but I have pictures and the land is still farmed by her family."

Eleanor lost two babies.
