SS Obergruppenführer (Lieutenant general) of the Gestapo and Holocaust perpetrator.

Born in Lêbork, Poland (once part of the German Empire).

Fought in World War One and won the Iron Cross.

Joined the Nazi Party in 1931.

Took part in battles with the Soviets in 1941.

In 1943, he took part in mass murder of Jews in Belgium, Belarus, France, the General Government, the Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, and parts of the Bezirk Bialystok.

Was one of the Nazi military leaders during the Warsaw Uprising.

Captured by the Americans by the end of the war in Europe. To avoid facing the death penalty for his crimes during the Holocaust, he testified against his former superiors at the Nuremberg Trials.

Arrested in the 1950's and 1960's for prior charges before the Holocaust.

Even though he was never charged with his involvement during the Holocaust, he openly denounced himself as a mass murderer.

Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski passed away in 1972.
