News of the Morning.

A terrible accident occurred near Silver Mountain, Alpine county, about one p.m. on Saturday, 28th. A snow slide buried four men named Iver Hanson, John H. Williams, Christopher Nelson and Harry Mercer. Hanson was the only one taken out alive. The bodies of Williams and Nelson were recovered. (Sacramento Daily Union, 1/30/1865)

About one o'clock to-day, as John H. Williams, Superintendent of I.X.L. Mining Company, and Christoper Nelson, Harry Mercer, and Iver Hanson were going to their claim, they were suddenly buried in a snow slide. Hanson was taken out alive. About four o'clock the bodies of Williams and Nelson were found. Up to five o'clock Mercer was not found. (Sacramento Daily Union, 1/30/1865)

Left behind at his death were his widow, Mary Williams, and nine children, who resided at Murphy's, Calaveras County. (Feb 4, 1865 Monitor Gazette).
