The father of David Bowie, whose real name is David Robert Jones, H.S. Jones was usually known as John Jones. He worked as a public relations officer for Dr. Barnardo's Childrens' Homes, and was married twice: firstly, in 1933, to Hilda Louise Sullivan; and, then, after their divorce, in 1947, to Margaret Mary Burns, known as Peggy, who was David's mother.

Note that most biographies of Bowie claim that his half-brother Terry (same mother, different father), who died on the 16th. January 1985, was interred here. This may very well be the case, but neither his name nor that of Mrs. Jones, who died on the 2nd. April 2001, seem to appear in the records of either the cemetery or the crematorium.

To find where Mr. Jones's ashes were scattered; the memorial gardens are situated just to the South-West of the Chapel. About half-way through the Gardens, there is a pergola, with rose beds on either side of it. His ashes were scattered in the sixth bed on the right-hand side, which is quite clearly marked as No. 24.
