Son of Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Belcher Hulburt who resided in New Haven, Connecticut.

Daniel served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Monssen (DD-436), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in New Haven County, Connecticut prior to the war.

The U.S.S. Monssen, during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, was hit by some 39 shells, including three of battleship caliber, and reduced to a burning hulk and sank the next day.

Daniel was "Killed In Action" during this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in the Guadalcanal Cemetery and was later repatriated here on January 13, 1949.

The Monssen was awarded four battle stars for World War II service.
