Retired Minister Dies at Winona Lake

The death of Rev. Wm. L. Heitz, 64, a native of Butler township, DeKalb county, took place Tuesday at noon at his home at Winona Lake. He had been in ill health for the last few years from a complication of diseases and was in serious condition three weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the residence at 9 o'clock Friday morning and at Butler Center Methodist church at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, with burial in Cedar Chapel cemetery.

Mr. Heitz was born Feb. 25, 1878, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Heitz.

He attended the country schools and the Methodist Protestant seminary at Adrian, Mich. He then held various pastorates, including one year at Altona in 1931. He retired because of ill health.

He and Laura Schopf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Schopf, who then lived a mile south of Garrett, were married in 1903.

She survives, as well as two sisters, Mrs. Anise Zerns of 404 Ensley avenue, Auburn, and Mrs. Archie Lung of 311 Ensley avenue, Auburn. Another sister, Mrs. Emma Batdorf of west of Altona, has been dead seven years and a brother Karie V. Heitz of Garrett, died in June, 1941.
