Jacob Oscar Malcom, 84, succumbed Monday, Sept. 12 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, following a prolonged illness. A native of McDowell, he was a son of the late Martin V. and Elizabeth Datamore Malcom. He was a member of McKendree Methodist Church where he served as a Steward and held other offices. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Grace Wooddell Malcom; a daughter. Mrs. John (Ventura) Hammer of McDowell; a brother, Dolon F. Malcom, Cedar Green, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Lytiia Russmiselle of Bloomington, ILL.; two grandchildren ; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at McKendree Church on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Charles J. Tilley. Burial was in McKendree Cemetery.
