HYANNIS – Virginia A. (Sullivan) Flaherty, of Hyannis, passed away on
Wednesday, August 21, 2013 after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford on May 27, 1923, she was the daughter of the late
William F. and Helen B. (Butler) Sullivan. She graduated from New
Bedford High School in 1941 and went on to Kinyon's Commercial School.
Ginny was a secretary at Camp Edwards during WW II and later at Mass
Maritime Academy where she met her beloved husband, John. She also
worked for years for the Comm of Mass Public Welfare Office in
Hyannis, retiring in the mid eighties.
She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier and a member of its' Guild
as well as a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, Jr.; her three sons, John
III, Matthew and Michael; and her brothers, Edward and William, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Peter Flaherty of Hyannis; her
grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew; her brother, Dennis Sullivan and his
wife, Judy of Hyannis; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call for 5-7 pm on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Doane, Beal
& Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street in Hyannis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Tuesday,
August 27, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street in
Hyannis.
Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Pine Street in Centerville.
