THE CRABB FAMILY
This family is one of the oldest and one of the largest in the Alexis district,dating back to the birth of Gershom Crabb, who was born in England, May 8, 1818, Who emigrated to this country with his mother and an uncle William Tavernor, in March, 1831, when there were only four or five houses along the river. Mr. Crabb was a soldier in the Union army, 130th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and performed guard duty at Johnson's Island, Sandusky Bay. Mr. Crabb married Miss Sarah A.Stevens, May 5, 1844. They had ten children. Today they are represented in Alexis Congregational Church by George Crabb, a son,and his wife, who was Winnie Wendel, as well as ten children and three grandchildren, all of whom live on or near the old home that was settled in I832, which consisted of one section of ground purchased from the government by Mr. Tavernor and deeded to Mr. G. Crabb, Sr.
