REVEREND EDWARD P.
85, of Green Tree, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 10:50 pm at his home. Born February 10, 1919 in Glassport, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Ella McMahon Gearing. Rev. Gearing was a resident of Green Tree for the past 10 years having previously resided in North Belle Vernon as Pastor of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon. Rev. Edward P. Gearing attended St. Cecilia School, Glassport; Central Catholic High School, Pittsburgh; Saint Vincent College and Seminary and was ordained June 11, 1944 at Saint Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. Following his ordination Rev. Gearing served the following assignments: Parochial Vicar - St. John the Evangelist Parish, Uniontown (1944-53); Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg (1953-55); St. Joseph Parish, New Kensington (1955-1957); Pastor - St. Mary Parish, Yatesboro (1957-1961); St. Patrick Parish, Brady's Bend (1961-62); St. Peter Parish, Brownsville (1962-73); and St. Sebastian Parish, Belle Vernon (1973-94). Special Assignments included Director of Youth Activities (1953); Diocesan Board of Examiners (1960); Synodal Judge (1961) and Diocesan Seminary Board (1962). He is survived by his three sisters, Anne Gearing, Mae Gearing and Virginia Gearing, all of Green Tree, PA. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Thomas M. Gearing and Msgr. Daniel A. Gearing. Visitation will be held Saturday from 6-8 pm at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon (724) 929-6183. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:30-4:00 pm at St. Sebastian R.C. Church Parish Center followed by Mass of Translation at 4:30 pm at St. Sebastian R.C. Church, and continued viewing after Mass until 9 pm Sunday evening in the church. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10:30 am at St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon with the Most Reverend Lawrence E. Brandt, JCD, PhD and retired Most Reverend Anthony G. Bosco, DD, JCL as con-celebrants.
