Allene R. (née Osterland) Malady, 85, of Ashland, formerly of Berea, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Hospice of North Central Ohio.

She was born March 30, 1928, in Cleveland, the daughter of Irene K. (née Nelson) and August C. Osterland.

She graduated from Parma Senior High school in 1946.

Allene took some college courses at Kent State University and attended secretarial school for clerical training.

She was a homemaker while the children were young. Allene retired from Berea Public Library at age 70 after 20 years of service as a desk clerk.

Allene was an avid book reader and enjoyed arts and crafts and bingo.

Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Malady of Lodi; stepdaughter, Michelle Myers of Parma; stepson, Michael Mallady of Bath; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John P. Malady, in 1994; daughter, Kathy McKee in 1995; stepson, Mark Malady in 2002; and sister, June Osterland.

At Allene's request, there will be no visitation. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Lakeview Cemetery. People who attend are asked to meet at the Euclid Avenue entrance -- 12316 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.
