Joseph Columbus Felps was born March 28, 1839, at the Felps farm in Rich Pond, Warren Co. KY. William K. and Sarah (ENNIS) Felps family Bible Birth page.

NOTE: Name change (FELPS to PHELPS) took place sometime around the year of 1855

Feb. 23, 1873, Joseph Columbus Phelps (both of Rich Pond) married Miss Savannah Van Butt, Sumner Co. TN. Five children born to this marriage.

Nov. 8, 1889 27 1/2 acres of land was conveyed to Joseph Columbus Phelps, being part of the estate of his dec'd father, William K. Phelps.

Jan. 15, 1891 Joseph Columbus Phelps being the first part, sold 27 1/2 acres, his share of his fathers land to his wife, Savannah Van Phelps of the second part in the amount of $100.00.

Nov. 7, 1898 Mrs. Savannah Van Phelps being the first part, sells 27 1/2 acres to John W. Phelps of the second part for the amount of, $550.00.

Nov. 15, 1898, Simpson County, Benjamin Franklin Butt being the first part, conveys 56 acres with a dwelling to Mrs. Savannah (Butt) Phelps of the second part for the sum of $1250.00, located close to the Big Spring Church.

Nov. 15, 1898, Benjamin Franklin Butt of Simpson County, being the first part, conveys 56 acres with a dwelling to his sister Mrs. Savannah (Butt) Phelps of Rich Pond, Warren County, of the second part for the sum of $1250.00, located close to the Big Spring Church.

Joseph Columbus Phelps moved from Rich Pond, to their new home and farm that was located close to the Big Spring Church in Simpson County, Kentucky. The Phelps household lived within a few miles from the household of John Byrd Clarke.

Feb. 22, 1904 Simpson County a deed of conveyance was made between Joseph Columbus Phelps his wife Savannah Van Phelps being the first part, and C.D. Dinwiddie and J.R. Dinwiddie of the second part sold 56 acres for the sum of $1200.00, located close to the Big Spring Church. The deed states that the heating stove is to remain with the house.

Feb. 26, 1904 a deed of conveyance was made between W.M. Murphy being the first part, and Joseph Columbus Phelps of the second part in the amount of $310.50 of which sum $175.00 has been paid cash in hand for a certain house and a lot containing 3/4 of an acre near Rockfield. The remainder of the purchase money the said Joseph Columbus Phelps with Clarence Joseph Phelps as his surety has executed and delivered to W.M. Murphy his two promissory notes for $67.75 each.

NO GRAVESTONE Mr. Joe C. Phelps, buried on left side of daughter Anna Maude Phelps Morehead. Source: Mr. Thomas Hill Phelps 1905 - 2001. Mr. Phelps was present at funeral and burial and conveyed to me "this is where uncle Joe is buried".
