Maryann Harmsen, 65, of Coralville, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, after an extended illness.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. A memorial fund as been established in her memory.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with Rev. Beverly Marshall-Goodell officiating. Burial will be in the Red Oak Cemetery, rural Tipton, Iowa.
Maryann Lukaszek was born October 19, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Francis and Vlasta (Pinter) Lukaszek. She received her education in the Chicago schools. She married Larry Lee Harmsen on November 16, 1974, in Chicago, Illinois. They moved to Tipton in 1986 and then moved to Iowa City in 2000. She was employed as a custodian at the University of Iowa and later at Rockwell Collins in Coralville, until her accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. The couple then moved to Coralville.
Surviving are her husband, Larry; two daughters, Patricia (Alberto) Rodriguez and Melody Harmsen, both of Iowa City; two sons, Paul L. Harmsen of Coralville and Scott L. Harmsen of Las Vegas, NV; two grandsons, Gage and Dallas Slater; one sister, Bonnie Vernola of Burbank, IL; and two brothers, Ronnie Lukaszek of West Lake, OH, and Rick Lukaszek of Lemont, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Connie Palacz and her mother and father-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Harmsen.
