Philip Robert Natoli, 81, of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011.

He was born on September 10, 1930, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, the son of the late Vincent and Sebastiana Campanella Natoli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah, Rose, and Doris.

Philip is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty; son, Peter Natoli of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Sue Mueller and her husband, Bill, of Earlysville; two grandchildren whom he cherished, Allison and Joanna Mueller of Earlysville; and two sisters, Ann Falzarano of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and her family, and Josephine Barnett of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, and her family. A graduate of Lyndhurst High School, Philip attended Montclair State College where he received a B.A. degree in music in 1953. He earned his Master of Music Education from Columbia University. He was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, while serving in the United States Army, Special Services, from 1953 until 1955. He was a member of the United States Army Band.

After working as an Instrumental Music teacher in Wayne, New Jersey, Philip moved to Morris County in 1956 where he initiated the music program for Randolph, New Jersey, Township Schools. There he taught, developed and fostered award-winning instrumental and vocal groups. He became Supervisor of Music for Randolph schools and was well-loved by his co-workers and students.

He and Betty were part-owners and operators of Camp Rondak and Ronwood in Schroon Lake, New York, from 1964 until 1971, where their family spent many happy summers. Upon moving to Charlottesville in 1996, Philip developed a new circle of friends whom he enjoyed. He continued his interests in the hobbies he loved such as music, travel, cooking, and spending precious time with his family. He was always a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. The Natoli family thanks the doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses of The University of Virginia Hope Cancer Center, especially Dr. James Boyer and Michelle Beard. They also express gratitude to the staff of University of Virginia Medical Center and countless others who caringly helped during Phil's illness.

A memorial service to celebrate Philip's life was conducted Friday, January 13, 2012, at Church of Our Savior, 1165 Rio Road East, with reception following in the church parish hall.
