Rev. Lloyd Garland Ashby, age 82, of Sanford, N.C., died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Westfield Nursing & Rehab Center in Sanford, N.C.
Mr. Ashby was born July 15, 1931, in Guilford County, N.C. to the late Charlie M. Ashby and Octa Leeanna Hudspeth Ashby. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving in Korea. Mr. and Mrs. Ashby worked as missionaries for Gospel Outreach Ministries for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lennie Mae Jones and brothers Robert, Marvin, Claude and Paul Ashby.
He is survived by his wife Maideline Parrish Ashby; two sons David Ashby and wife Teresa of Lexington, Joe Ashby and wife Teena of Churchland, NC; daughter Tammy Gunter and husband Charles of Broadway; brother Frank Ashby and wife Margaret of Welcome, NC; four grandchildren Jason Ashby and wife Elissa, Julie Beane and husband Jason, Joshua Stone and wife Jillian and Jody Creech and husband Allen; and five great-grandchildren Travis Ashby, Caleb Beane, Madison Beane, Jonathan Everett and Ella Stone.
Funeral service for Mr. Ashby will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Rev. Scottie Jackson, Pastor Ray Bodin and Rev. Max Shoaf officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 12:30 until the funeral hour.
Burial will follow at Lee Memory Gardens with military honors.
