Friends Sorrow for Miss Mitchell
The death of Miss Elizabeth Mitchell which occurred at the home of her sister, Mrs. Adfer Towne, of Putnam, as noted in The Bulletin, caused sorrow to many friends in this city.
Miss Mitchell was born in Sligo, Ireland, in 1866. She came to America when 14 years of age and was one of the first pupils admitted to the Willimantic Normal school and was graduated in 1891.
Afterwards, she took a nurse's training for several years. She served the government in the Spanish-American war and in Kentucky, Georgia, Cuba and the Philippines.
She was a cousin of Selectman Robert E. Mitchell of this city.
Burial was in Grove Street cemetery, Putnam.
