He was the son of James Lemmon and Rebecca Blake.

On 14 Aug 1834, he married Emily Amanda McIntyre in Fremont, OH. they had ten children: Edward, Wm. Henry, John, Sarah, Rebecca, Cyrus, Maurice, Edwin (died at age 2), Lucy (lived 1 day), and Emily.

Emily died in 1860. Uriah married 3 to 4 more times. He married Cornelia Sprier in 1866 and that marriage ended in divorce. In 1870 he married Dorcas Ferguson. She died 3 years later. In 1874, he married Sarah Hoyt. She survived him.

Uriah left his NY home at age 19 with 2 younger brothers for Ohio. It took nearly 2 weeks with a wagon and $11. The rest of the family soon followed.

He worked as a carpenter and joiner. He farmed and also worked for Judge Howland in Fremont Ohio. He took up shoemaking for his family.

He was a Mason and the firector of the Sandusky County Agricultural Society. He changed his political affiliation from Whig to Republican after the repeal fo the Missouri Compromise in 1854.
